The Coin

Obverse — laureate head of Trajan right, IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM; the early-reign portrait, sharply struck with attractive iridescent toning

Reverse — Mars advancing right with transverse spear and trophy over shoulder, P M TR P COS IIII P P around; small flan flaws at the lower edge

Attribution: Italy. Rome. Trajan. c. 101–102 AD (COS IIII; reign 98–117 AD). AR. denarius.

Obverse: Laureate head of Trajan right

Reverse: Mars advancing right, helmeted, nude but for cloak around waist, transverse spear in right hand, trophy of arms over left shoulder in left hand
