Macedon First Meris Tetradrachm

Attribution: Macedonia. Amphipolis. The First Meris (Macedonian regional council under Roman protectorate). c. 167–149 BC (traditionally 158–150 BC — see essay). AR. tetradrachm.

Obverse: Diademed and draped bust of Artemis Tauropolos right, bow and quiver at her shoulder, at the center of a Macedonian shield ornamented with stars in double crescents

Reverse: Club right; control-monograms in field (partially legible on this specimen); all within oak wreath; thunderbolt outside to left (standard for the issue; weak on this specimen)
